Sammy, a teenage cashier in a grocery store is working the register on a monotonous, hot, summer day when three young women enter barefoot, clad only in swimsuits. Paul Lengel, he store manager, has a problem with their appearance and embarrasses them. Sammy takes a stand for the three girls that Lengel says he will "feel for the rest of his life".
